Summerwood sales increase 21% in 2011

New-home sales in Summerwood increased 20% in 2011, with 188 homes sold last year compared to the 155 sold in 2010.

Summerwood’s strong performance vaulted the 1,500-acre community into second place in the Humble/Northeast Houston market, second only to its sister community of Eagle Springs. Both communities are developments of Newland Communities.

Summerwood was also one of the top 50 master-planned communities in the United States for 2011, according to a report from RCLCO, a national real estate advisory firm. Summerwood ranked 36th nationally, and 11th in the overall Houston market in the RCLCO study.

Increased new-home variety and major developments such as the completion of the Sam Houston Tollway Northeast helped draw more homebuyers to Summerwood in 2011, said Kayla Webb, marketing director for Newland Communities.

“Summerwood and the immediate surrounding area had a number of exciting developments last year, and the momentum is continuing into 2012,” Webb said.

The transformation of the Sam Houston Tollway into a stoplight-free expressway from U.S. 59 North east to U.S. 90A raised awareness of the area’s convenience for homebuyers working in downtown Houston, Webb said.

‘The new H-E-B Summerwood Market and the nearby Lone Star College-Atascocita Center also opened last year, and we’re very excited about the new Memorial Hermann Convenient Care Center, opening this summer right across the street from Summerwood.”

Summerwood expanded its lineup of new homes by adding builders including David Weekley Homes, Brighton Homes, M Street Homes and Westin Homes in 2011. Several new model homes were opened in the Summerwood Model Home Village and elsewhere in the community. Overall, Summerwood offers new homes and townhomes priced from the $120,000s to $500,000s, with additional builders including J. Patrick, Lennar, Partners In Building and Village Builders. For 2012, Perry Homes has joined the Summerwood roster of builders.
