Atascocita ranks as Texas' fastest-growing city

A study by Bloomberg BusinessWeek concluded that Atascocita was the fastest-growing city in Texas, which also had the nation’s largest state population growth between July 2008 and July 2009.

Atascocita had 23,917 households in 2009, an 8% increase since 2008 and a 108% jump from 2000. The study also found that average household income in Atascocita has risen 26% since 2000, to $29,272 in 2009.

According to BusinessWeek writer Vanessa Wong, communities with the best mix of economic activity, proximity to job centers, and a good environment for families have continued to grow while other regions have lost population.

“We are delighted, but not surprised, that Atascocita has been named the fastest-growing city in Texas,” said Jennifer Taylor, vice president of marketing for Newland Communities, developer of the 1,500-acre Summerwood community. “We would add outstanding schools to the list of reasons why this area has been so popular with homebuyers. The Humble Independent School District has a well-deserved reputation for excellence, and we are very excited that Humble ISD’s newest middle school is now under construction and opening this August in Summerwood.”

Offering 200 acres of parks, lakes, greenbelts and open natural areas, Summerwood features new homes from the $160,000s to $400,000s.

Katy, home to the Newland Communities development of Cinco Ranch, ranked as the number two fastest-growing city in Texas on the BusinessWeek list.
