Newcomer Guide Profile
Location, location, location has helped make Summerwood one of Houston's most enduringly popular master-planned communities. One of the few Houston communities located along Beltway 8 (Sam Houston Parkway), Summerwood offers a heavily wooded environment that makes it hard to imagine you are so close to Downtown Houston.
Ideally located at Beltway 8 and W. Lake Houston Parkway, Summerwood offers quick and easy access to Downtown, Bush Intercontinental Airport and the Port of Houston Industrial Complex. W. Lake Houston Parkway leads to a full range of shopping and services only minutes away.
Schools are also part of the locational advantage of Summerwood. Located in the top-rated Humble Independent School District, Summerwood has an onsite elementary school, appropriately named Summerwood Elementary. A second elementary school serving Summerwood's youngest learners opened in 2009. Summer Creek High School, located just across Beltway 8 from Summerwood, also opened in 2009, providing the community's older students with a gleaming state-of-the-art campus.
A new onsite middle school is planned to open in Summerwood in 2010, adjacent to a new YMCA campus. The middle school with share athletic facilities at the YMCA with the community.
Wooded nature preserves are a distinctive feature of the 1,500-acre master plan for Summerwood, with over 150 acres of these green spaces meandering through the community. Summerwood also has three major community centers, including the newest, Club Summerwood, providing a lodge-style gathering area and a "great lawn" for special events. Other amenities include 17 acres of lakes, miles of greenbelt trails, and numerous parks including Lakeview Park, offering Lake Houston views and access.
New homes in Summerwood are priced from the $160,000s to $400,000s and are offered by J. Patrick, Lennar, Meritage, Partners In Building, Texas Big and Village Builders. Model home tours are offered at the Summerwood Model Home Village, a one-stop collection of model homes located next to the Information Center. For more information, visit www.summerwoodtx.com.
